Camp Hoʻomana: January 31st - February 4th 2024. BE THERE!
I am putting on a trail running camp! But not just any trail running camp. Join me and Carson for three full days of trail running, surfing, reflecting, and Hawaiian cultural education.
I fell in love with trail running before I could put a name to what I was doing. Carson and I would retreat into the Kohala Forest as teens, barefoot, in love and pulsing with the energy of Hawaiʻi Island. It’s where we learned to be present, the importance of listening to our gut or naʻau, and where we felt free to be our goofy selves.
I went on to make trail running my career as a coach and professional runner. All day long, I try to instill the lessons I learned while trail running in Hawaiʻi to my athletes. Regardless of why you run, it is an opportunity to be present, to reflect on your WHY, celebrate and Malama or care for the land. Running as a spiritual practice can bring you closer to where you run, to the food you eat, to your family, your community, and to yourself. But it’s a hard concept to explain over Zoom to athletes who love to push their limits, race, and compete.
I want to share these lessons without selling out Hawaiʻi or Hawaiian culture. Instead, with the guidance of a few trusted Kupuna who will be attending camp, I want to help educate trail runners and visitors on how best to visit and recreate in Hawaiʻi, how living with Hawaiian values can benefit you in your everyday life, and give back to the community here in Hawaiʻi by supporting local businesses and participating in native Hawaiian practices like farming Kalo.
It may not be perfect. We will be learning together. Learn more about Camp Hoʻomana here, and join us for an action-packed three days. You WILL get muddy. It WILL get uncomfortable. We WILL celebrate Hawaiʻi and be grateful for the Hawaiian people. And we will have a FKN RAD time. Hope to see you there.
More info is coming out weekly! Stay tuned!
